Rented the 17-55 for the weekend. Very sharp, tight nice handling lens (particularly compared to a "kit" lens) Seems wide/tight enough for everyday use. Particularly because I mainly do interviews. Was also going to audition the Nikon 80-200 but that puppy is way heavy and I don't have my rod support system in yet. But build seemed similar to 17-55. Might also try the Nikon 14-35. As you may have guessed I'm kind of a Nikon guy
Have to admit I miss the reach of a 20 to 1 2/3" ENG/EFP lens. But every camera comes with compromises. Found myself just moving in closer. Zooming all the time can make you a little lazy.
Barry is right; you do not to overexpose the highlights on this camera. I found running it right up to clipping and backing off a quarter stop works best for me. Rather be cranking on those highlights in the comfort of post, rather than in the field. Might induce just a tad more noise but considering the alternative...
Here's a few tests I've done with the camera. Nothing special just getting a feel for what the camera can and can't do.
