Audio/video not in sync!

My audio and video is not in sync on playback in the editing program... The speaker's mouth does not match the words you hear, It was shot in 30i. Why does this happen?
 
Thanks for responding....NLE is Final Cut Express. I captured using the "capture now" button. As to the amout of lapse, vocals are about .5 seconds behind.
 
Well 0.5 seconds is a lot. That is 15 frames. If it was a couple of frames, I might know why.
 
You really need to give a lot more information on your recording setup... did you use the camera's internal mics? Where was everything physically?

And, what's your playback setup? Are you previewing over DV?

And, what do you really mean by 30i?
 
When you capture, try playing the tape for a few seconds before clicking on "capture now," it should solve your problem, I had the same thing happen to me, and this worked for me.

I had the same problem, I edit with Avid Xpress DV 4.6 and what I did was check this little box on the digitize widow to set my input values. Find out if you have something like that on your editing station.
