Audio Video Movie Sync'ing

Hi all,

I'm about to do my first music video with the flashy vid scenes and all kinds FX effects. I've worked on learning the NLE part but I'm not versed in getting the video clips and all sync'd together. Thus, I'm calling on all those music vid guys to give me some input (pun)

My concern is how to get video and then when editing get it all sync'd properly. Here's my thoughts and feel free to tell me I'm dreaming and to shut up and listen :)

1. make the music part first and export to cd.
2. set up cam's (all dvx100b's) and import audio through wireless while also playing it locally so the music talent can do his thing, meanwhile recording vid with three clapper sync'd dvx100b's.
3. move to another set do the same all over again in 1. and 2.
4. repeat 3 as often as desired until satisifed with the takes/clips
5. go to post and capture all the video and do a 12 to 16 cam multi-sync then edit as usual with fx etc.

So, am I on, stupid or what? Is there an easier way? (like some way to get cd smtp time code into the dvx100b or the like? thus rendering sync's as easy as 1,2,3? HELP!!!!?????

Thanks in advance to all who decide to let 'er rip :D

There is a way that I find much easier, and doesn't involve a slate at all. Before you export your music track to cd, insert 4 short bursts of tone. Then in post you can use the tone bursts to sync up your cameras, and the cameras with your audio track. Also, I see no reason to send the audio wirelessly to the cameras. Just lay down the origional version in post.

Thanks "fixitinpost" for the beeps idea . . easy and simple . . I like that. As far as the wirelessly, it's not biggie plus we have to have audio at the field/set so the vocal talent has something to sing to :) and assuming that the time code works seemlessly we can just mute the audio tracks in post on the vids and lay the track down as you mention. I've never recorded audio separate from video and the reason is that I've always been nervous that it won't sync :( An old linear guy who used to experience all kinds of sync issues and thus perhaps a carry over that isn't warrranted?

BTW, don't worry about molesting the buffalo, if someone has that much nerve they are warranted in their action, as for me, not to worry . . I'm keeping my distance for sure.

I would at least sync the TC on these cams. It will make the workflow much simpler in your NLE.
