Audio Sync w/ 7q

Has anyone had any audio sync issues? I have an interview I shot the other day off by 9 frames. I have no clue why, and nothing else I've shot has been off (with this current firmware). It has me scratching my head.

Yep. For the first time ever, i had audio off what i thought was about 5 frames after the new update. I was shooting 4k2UHD 24fps. Haven't tested 4K2HD.

I was shooting 4k raw 2 4k prores 30p. I guess I haven't shot an interview in that before on the new firmware. I was shooting 4k2hd for the other interviews.

Hopefully Mitch pops in here... I shot a whole slew of commercials after the update, all the audio was exactly 8 frames behind. I was shooting 4K RAW to 4K ProRes I emailed them and they said it was isolated because otherwise they'd be hearing about it... Now it looks like a few others are having the issue.

At least we had all the master audio from our sound dept. and all the audio was in sync on the XQD card. And in reality, the audio sounded great, it was just off, so we could have shifted it in the editor (pain in the butt, but again, not a devastating issue.)

But I've got a travel doc shoot for a few days in Jamaica, and the other shooter wants us both to capture ProRes (4K RAW to HD ProRes) with our FS7+XDCA setups. We are doing lavs and on-camera shotgun, so I'm going to run some tests to make sure we don't have an surprises. It would be a major pain to end up with a doc completely out of sync. A commercial is one thing with relatively few takes in a scene, but two cameras rolling all day for several days? I wouldn't want to be the one to fix all of that audio...

I ran a test today. 4K RAW to 4K ProRes recording has a problem with 2015.8 firmware. My audio was out-of-sync by 8 frames, that is, the audio comes 8 frames too late. 4K RAW recording (cinemaDNG) was fine, no problems = audio is in sync with video.

Same problem here! 8 frames out of sync in 4k prores 23.98fps, and 12 frames out of sync in 29.97fps

No problem with 4k2HD

Hey guys, I'm traveling and don't have a camera & Odyssey with me right now. Has anyone tried 4K RAW -> UHD Apple ProRes rather than 4K -> 4K? For most work you'll likely only need UHD rather than true 4K. Of course we will address the issue, but this may be a temporary solution.

Same kinds of issues here, too. 2015.8 firmware on an Odyssey 7Q. Showing playback to a client today caught me off guard with the big sync playback problem. Audio on the recorded clip seemed to be in sync, so for me anyway, when I got back to the studio and played the clip in PPro CC, it was normal. Just playback on the Odyssey 7Q in the field was out of sync. Playback of 4K Prores material was also super glitchy on the device. Lots of color errors and static noise. It cleaned itself up when I switched back into Cam mode before trying again. For me, it's a playback-only problem, it seems (I hope).

I tried UHD, same problem.. No luck

Yeah, also seeing the playback glitches especially in 4K ProRes. Screen will turn blue sometimes. Or just start stuttering like mad. I believe it's a known issue they're working on.

I had this same issue right away from the new firmware, unfortunately only noticed after shooting hours of footage for a feature and a few commercials with it. At first CD said "We have not had any other reports of audio sync issues" and "The recording should be within 3-4 frames within the camera.", then they were tying to replicate the problem, finally a week later "our team has been able to replicate this". I suppose one lesson here is do not upgrade software mid-project and fully test it out once you do. Downgrading to 2015.07 worked for me to clear up sync problem.

Well in CD's defense, they've said in that past that they don't recommend changing firmware mid-project. But I'm with you, it's not an issue I've had in 1.5 years of shooting with the Odyssey, so I never thought of checking the files until after I had already shot 4 out of 6 commercials...

True, the allure of 240 Prores was far too great. Otherwise it's a fantastic update and I can't wait to safely go back to 2015.08 or whatever we see next.

We are working on it. I would give more updates if I could, but I'm currently in China prepping for the BIRTV convention so communications are a little difficult.
