GH3 Audio Solutions

I've just recently got my hands on a Panasonic GH3 and have a few documentary and interview projects coming up in the near future. In the past I was working solely on music videos, and had no need for audio equipment. I've done some research and have decided to purchase a Juiced Link preamp, more than likely the RM222 so that I can record directly into the camera with more professional pre-amps. The next step is to find a microphone. Looking into the future I think a boom mic solution will give me the most versatile for these and future projects. I've heard a few comparisons, but haven't too much experience with audio and don't know exactly what to look for when choosing a microphone. Right now I'm comparing the Rode NTG-2 and the Video Mic Pro as those two are within my price range and seem to get the most positive reviews amongst budget microphones. Any thoughts or 1st hand experience with the two mics? Thanks.

I use the Videomic Pro and it's sound is great. I can run the Videomic Pro into 1 channel and a Sennheiser G2/G3 wireless into the other channel and I don't need a mixer. The preamps are louder than a dedicated mixer/recorder but if you want something very portable and versatile, it works and I'd be satisfied with it for documentary/news. It's not a sane solution for someone wanting to film a dramatized movie in my opinion. I couldn't get a 1/8" splitter cable to work properly, so I bought a few little adapters and I go from 2 1/8" mono cables (one from the videomic, the other from the sennheiser receiver) to an RCA dual mono to stereo 1/8" adapter which then plugs into the camera. It's small, light, & simple.

If you want to input line level, you'll need a sescom attenuator cable or something similar.

I use the NTG 2 and sony wireless lavs with the beachtek pro. The wireless lavs are easy for interviews and one-man set-ups. The NTG 2 and boom for noisy environments.
