Audio Software Question

I am pulling together footage that was previously edited with background music added as an underscore for an interview style video.
Is there a software that could lower the music a bit and make the voices more pronounced so I don't have annoying music changes with quick cuts.
It's kind of a highlight video of the past year, and they don't know if they can find the original media.

Depending on the frequencies involved in the background music, you might be able to do this somewhat with an equalizer, by pulling back all of the frequencies other than those used for voice - but it will likely distort both the voice and the music to some degree, and even then might not give you anything usable.

There is software around that will try to do just about anything with sound, but you're not going to get this to happen cleanly unless you have the voice separate from the music in the media - or even a copy of just the voice or just the music along with the combined track.

If you have just the voice, this is easy and obvious...

If you have just the music, you can use it to reduce the music volume by inverting the phase of the music-only track then mixing it with the original. Turning up the inverted music will reduce the volume of the music from the combined track.
