Audio recording on HVX

The audio tracks are independent of the video and the framerate - correct?

If so then when recording wild lines or room tone straight to the camera you should make the frame rate the lowest available to save on digital storage - do i have that right?

I believe that you are correct. Using the lowest data rate video (assumed to be SD) will not have an impact on the interleaved audio quality. It will still be either 2 channels at 16 bit 48 kS/s or 4 channels of 12 bit 32 kS/s audio. I don't think that there will be an option to record just audio (though that would be great) but since the final feature set isn't known, everything at this stage is speculation.

I don't see any reason the 200 should be different from its big brother, the 800, and not record 4 channels of 16bit/48khz. The 12b/32khz is an old limitation of DV-tape. And tape is gone...

I don't want to nitpick but it would be much better if it were 24bit/96khz which is quickly becoming a standard, certainly in professional use.

It can record four channels of audio, but only for HD. SD recording is two channels.

Channels 3 and 4 (for HD) are the left and right capsules of the camera mic. I'll bet that is one of the first aftermarket things that will hit the street--a device to plug into the mini jack and let channels 3 and 4 become XLR.

Well, no, actually it can record four channels in all modes.

For DV, you can get four channels of 12-bit 32khz audio. For DVCPRO50 (which is still SD) you get four channels of 48khz 16bit audio. And in DVCPRO-HD you also get 4 channels of 16-bit 48khz uncompressed audio.

I guess the question is whether DV mode lets you record all four tracks live or not... but DVCPRO50 definitely does. DV mode should, I would think...
