Audio problems

I was doing a shoot of a show of a rockgroup. De audio was ful of pops because the audio level was to high.
IMO it could be better is I could lower the sensitivety in the menu to 30 or even 10db/0db.
Am I right or is there more to it? My microphone could handle the pressure I assume. I solve the problem by filling my boom windjammer first with foam and later with towelpaper around the mic.

Better solutions would include getting a pad for the mic, and/or running it through a mixer that can do a better job of attenuating the signal. This might be a topic better suited for the audio forum.
