Audio Problem w) senn. 416-- please help

I have a dvx100b and a sennheiser 416 p48

I'm sure there is nothing wrong with my camera but I'm getting no sound out of the microphone. Both are brand new and I've tried every kind of audio setting and still nothing. The internal's work fine and I can hear "PINGS" when I plug the mic in and out of the camera. Is it possible my mic is a dud or am I overlooking something?

If your looking to use both channels, plug in your mic to input 2. Open up your LCD screen and switch both the CH 1 Select and CH 2 Select to Input 2. Then where it says INPUT 2, just to the right of the CH select switches, flip the switch to on to turn on your phantom power. Make sure your audio level controls (the two knobs under the LCD screen) are not turned all the way down.
 
I might be missing something simple, but right now I'm thinking that you should try using a different XLR cable or trying a different microphone to see if you get any results. So do a mix and match sort of thing. Try using a different XLR cable, and if that doesnt work, try using a different mic and if that works, then it might be something with your mic.
