Audio Popping Randomly during Log & Capture

I have a DVX100B with a Sennheiser Shotgun connected by XLR, taping on Panasonic AY-DVM63AMQ tapes.

No matter if the second input is the in-camera mic or XLR connection to the theater source line ~ I still get spontanteous popping at various rates and at different place on all the tapes ~ it is happening through both channels, so it's not the mics ~ some times the pops will disappear for more than 10 minutes at a time.

(1) What is it?

(2) What is the best tool to use in post (FCP, Soundtrack Pro, ETC)?

(3) Thank you.

Well if there are pops being recorded, there will not be a fix in post. Is it only doing it in input 2? If input 1 is fine, just record to it and have ch 2 off, and dub the L track in FCP to be L and R... You need to get your DVX checked out though...

I wanted to make sure of this before I responded..

But I'm not hearing any popping sounds now that I'm editing, it just seems to be during the LOG AND CAPTURE in FCP.

Oh well, at least the footage and sounds are all good.

Thank you for your help Andy.

next time, try raising the audio kbps from like 44.1k to like 48k. i had the same problem (in logic pro, though) and that fixed it.

Ask far as I know.. it has always been 48k.

It sure is an interesting problem.. glad to know not to panic now.

Thanks..
