Audio Peaking Problem?

Hello. I recently purchased an AF100 and have been trying it out with filming drum covers. I am using a shotgun mounted to the camera and have the audio levels set to what I think is an acceptable level. However, it seems like the audio peaks a little too easy and of course i get the loud popping sound. Can anyone help me with this? Or am I just too naive. Thanks!

Is what you think an acceptable level a guess ?

DO some tests and I suggest you lower your levels as well as check the mic specs and input settings.

The mic gain can be changed in the menu (Menu/Recording Setup/Mic Gain) , so I would go in and lower it a notch or two and see how that works. Be sure to raise it when you are recording normal dialogue and not drums.

A shotgun mic is very sensitve and not designed for the dynamics of music, but with lowered gain should do OK.
