Audio out of sync

I shot some footage in 60i with the audio set to 16 bit and I believe it was in record run and not free run. When I upload to FCP 6.0 the audio is out of sync in both Quicktime and in FCP. I have the settings at Firewire NTSC and NTSC 48khz. It is about a 50 minute clip. FCP is not picking up each clip but running straight through even though I set it to make new clip. When I upload using IMovie everything is in sync. Any suggestions on how to upload this with the audio in sync would be most appreciated.

1) What camera are you using?

2) What are your FCP capture and sequence settings?

3) Computer specs and FCP version?

Camera - AG-DVX100b set to 16 bit audio and 60i video
Sequence Preset - DV-NTSC 48 kHz
Capture Preset - DV-NTSC 48 kHz
Device Control Preset - Firewire NTSC

I am using Macbook Pro 10.5.8 with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 4 GB memory.

I have tried capturing in shorter clips but it is still out of sync. Captures fine in IMovie. Has to be something with FCP and I can't get it right for some reason.

I had exactly the same problem yesterday with a DVX-100A, 59 minute capture. I started experimenting with different sampling rates and sizes, but eventually found success to be associated with capture sizes. Rather than capture the whole tape I captured video in sections. I hope this works for you too. Check out this data:

Full Capture Scenario
59 minutes - audio out of sync

Partial Capture Scenario
0 thru 10 minutes - perfect
10 thru 20 minutes - perfect
20 thru 30 minutes - perfect
30 thru 40 minutes - perfect
40 thru 50 minutes - perfect
50 thru 59 minutes - horrible, audio out of sync

Last Capture Scenario (another test)
50 thru 55 minutes - perfect
55 thru 58 minutes - perfect
58 thru 59 minutes - not sure about sync (room tone only)

I wish I had more definitive data on the last scenario, particularly the very last capture. Unfortunately, it was room tone and there was no transient audio. The result was curious, though. I'm new to Final Cut and capturing in general, but I'd love to understand how this happened. Does it have something to do with the end of the recording on DV tape?

I still don't know what's going on either. I ended up capturing all the footage in IMovie and then importing it into FCP. The downside is having to render everything afterwards, but at least it worked.

Just posting a recent observation on audio sync.

When I batch captured 20 minutes of footage yesterday I found that only the last capture was out of sync. I divided the captures to follow the trend. Length of capture did not matter. The last capture on the tape was always bad. When I captured all 20 minutes into a single clip the whole thing was bad, because that clip was last. I eventually widdled the captured down to multiple clips with a final 9 second clip. Every clip was in sync except for the last 9 second clip.

I don't know why it happens. Maybe it'll ring a bell for someone else.
