i'm an artist totally new to video/audio work, but now i'm doing a video piece. unfortunately my camcorder, Sanyo Xacti waterproof, does not have mic inputs. (yes it's a silly camcorder but i live by the beach and film in the water). my friend has a Sony PCM 50. i'm recording/filming people playing music, so i need the sound quality to be good and to sync with the video. is there a way to record my video at the same time as the Sony PCM 50 records the sound, via a breakout box or something like that? i will be editing with final cut pro, but everyone keeps telling me the video and sound won't match up properly without a mic that goes directly into the camcorder.

and no i do not have a budget for a new camera.
please answer in total layman's terms if possible... thank you for your help! :embarasse

bring slate and you done.
slate the start and end of the shoot , if there will be drift in long takes you will be able to make sync

$30 solution. Use the clapper after you roll camera and sound. The spike in the waveform, plus the frame of video where the sticks come together, serve as your sync reference. You'll need to slate every time you stop and re-start recording.

The one challenge you may hit is drift. Since neither your camera nor your audio recorder share a common clock, you may find that takes longer than a few minutes start to drift out of sync. The solution is to find a common out-point, calculate the difference in time from the clap to that point, and time-compress or expand the audio as needed.

Most people have had good success with Dualeyes or Pluraleyes.
I have not gotten it to work properly with Win7...but then again, most people who use it, like it.
