Audio Meters and Picture Zoom goes away when recording video.

So I've been wanting a D800 but knew it's a long wait to order one. Imagine my surprise to walk into my local Best Buy yesterday and they happen to have one in stock!

So, I notice when superimposing the audio meter on screen that I disappears when you start recording. Also the magnification feature no longer works during recording. Is there any way around this?
