so i put track in my timeline and when i go to play back all i get is beep, beep, beep, beep,...

what should i do?

More than that maybe... you got MP3s in there? That's a no no.

I'd batch export your audio and make sure you set it to 48k 16 bit aiff

However, if you have more than say 8 tracks (depends on what's in your preferences) you'll need to do a render and/or a mixdown... Apple-Option-R.

bumping from years ago - if I have an .mp3 file on my computer, how can I change it to .aif so I can put it into fcp?

I think you can just drop it into the timeline and render if necessary. If not, export from quicktime player as an aiff!

You can't just drop an mp3 in fcp and render. You could but it will sound horrible. You need to convert to aiff before bringing it into FCP.

It seems to work OK for me... but I agree that converting beforehand (via Quicktime Player or whatever) is a better approach!
