Audio Hiss

Greetings DVX'ers,

I'm new to the forum so it is entirely possible that I missed a posting on this subject, so pardon me if I'm asking a redundant question.

Has anyone experienced a problem with a high end hiss in their audio? I've been getting it up around 12khz. My cam is a 100, one of the first 1000 shipped, just wondering if it is flaw in many early cams or if I've just got an alignment problem.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Audio Hiss

I found that it seems to be the preamp to the headphones. I even hear it when the mics are disconnected. Seems to not be present on the actual soundtrack when loaded into FCP.

Re: Audio Hiss

Correct, this is a well discussed issue. The hiss is present in the headphones, but it is NOT recorded to tape. Just a little quirk to deal with. I can hear it on my 100A.

Re: Audio Hiss

Thanks for the responses! But, my hiss is going to tape. It's like a bad signal to noise ratio. If the pots are cranked to 75% of capacity or higher I end up with a lot of high end noise. Anyone experience that before?

Re: Audio Hiss

You might check your wires to see if they're in need of replacement. You might also try routing your mike thru a pre or small mixer then into your camera. This way you could connect your headphones to the mixer and also be able to hear and adjust you levels more accurately.

Re: Audio Hiss

Did you mention whether you're having this problem with the onboard mic or with external mics only (sennheiser, at, azden)? I get a faint hiss when working with the onboard mic.

Re: Audio Hiss

Thanks for the input smithy and pk. I will try the mixer route if for nothing else to see if I can isolate the problem further. I have gotten the hiss with a SGM 2X, ME66 and the onboard. I'll keep working on it. Thanks again gents.
