Audio garble... you ever heard such a thing?

I was shooting on location in a reasonably cool dry facility, then I had to shoot in an indoor pool area with high humidity. After that, back to the normal conditions for an interview. Towards the end of the 10 minute interview, this started happening:

(I blurred his face because the video is not released yet.)

The lavalier microphone was not in the pool area, only the camera. I am wondering if the camera got some condensation in it? Would that make sense? At first it started "clicking" like the battery in the lav might be going bad and then it started to garble. I changed the battery in the mic but it did it again.

Any thoughts? I have have the same setup on now for 15 minutes testing it and I can't get it to replicate.

Thanks!

I'm actually a full time location audio guy (but certainly not a "hot shot"). Maybe I can help.

It really was not a long enough audio clip to make a good judgement but, from what I heard (and the way you described it), it sounded like maybe a small drop of water or perspiration from the talent got into the mic capsul. When it dried up, the mic pretty much went back to normal.

What model is your lav mic? Did you have it hidden under clothing?

Hey Tom,
Thanks for the reply. It's a Sony ECM 44b. I didn't think of that but it does sound like a good possibility. It was under the top of his shirt at the collar. I was more worried about the camera and future shoots but that would make sense. I had never experienced that situation before. I wish I would have run a second mic instead of both channels on the lav. That way I could know for sure.
Thanks
