Audio Fuzz

I used my Azden SGM-1X on a boom with my DVX100 for the first time today and noticed that I got some static when my mic was shaken. I thought was the mic at first, but it worked fine on another camera. I then assumed that it must be that the DVX sensitivity was too high, and turned the gain to -50dB. I believe this helped- I assume I am probably just getting distortion from peaking audio? But it just seems a little "too" sensitive to bumps.

(Note: the connection is fine, I tried different XLR cables)

Re: Audio Fuzz

Are you noticing this with headphones on? If so it might be your headphones. Even with your db up it shouldn't make any sort of fuzzing sounds.

Re: Audio Fuzz

Well, the headphones are OK, b/c they work with other cameras. I only hear it when the mirophone is hit against something though. Is there any way this might be the camera?

Re: Audio Fuzz

I'm not sure, could also be a ground related problem on the mic/cable/camera inputs. Sorry, if I was no help.

Re: Audio Fuzz

What is a ground related problem? I worry that it is the XLR inputs- but it happens on input 1 & 2, so it is less likely, I would think.

I think it must be the audio peaking and distorting when bounced around?
But still, when it is shaken on another camera there is no feedback.

Re: Audio Fuzz

I don't think there's really nothing wrong with the camera. Just set your mic on mid levels and try to bang the thing agianst any objects. Also try using a different mic and see if it distorts. Just make sure your mic levels aren't set too high.
