Audio from DVX100A

I was shooting a short film recently and noticed that the audio output from the headphone jack of the DVX was a bit noisy. The audio from the boom mic was first run through a mixer. But the audio from the mixer sounded fine. It was when I monitored it directly from the DVX that it sounded subpar. I tried this on two different DVX cameras with the same results.

Anybody have any advice on this?

Thanks,

So are you saying that the noise I'm hearing through the DVX's earphone jack isn't necessarily being recorded to tape? Interesting. So, really the best way to monitor the sound is through the mixer? What recommended settings on the DVX (mic or line)? I suppose I would just have to make sure the audio is not overdriven on the DVX's LCD panel.

The dvx has a built-in device to boost the levels because on the dvx100 it was kinda hard to hear through the phones. That noise you hear is not recorded to tape....as you will see when you play back the footage.

Thanks for the input. :)

May still want to monitor out of the noisy headphone jack because that is the only way you'll know for sure your audio is hitting tape.

Exactly. I agree. I know it's kind of scary at the beginning to hear all that noise, but after a while you mentally learn to filter it in your brain.

Pain in the butt. But it's not just the DVX. I've got a Foxtex digital recorder sitting here...and it has been sitting here for over a year because it sounded like crap through the headphones. Hissy. Sounded like every cassette recorder I ever had.

Duh. Guess I should have "downloaded" the tracks and listened to the actual recording...sounds fine.
