Audio frame rate question

I'm shooting a short film and I'm going to be recording the audio externally with a DAT. I'm shooting it 720/24pn and will eventually want to go out to film. I'll also be converting the 24p timeline to a 29.97 file so that I can make DVD's...

So, should the audio be recorded at 24fps?

Audio doesn't have a frame rate, it has a sampling rate per second. Are you asking about what timecode mode to use with the audio?

But don't go converting to 29.97 to make a DVD -- that's an unnecessary and destructive step. Just author the DVD at 24p; you'll get better quality and have more options.

I guess it's the timecode mode then...I just want to make sure the audio matches up with the video when I bring them both into FCP. My sound guy is going to record to a DAT and then bring the sound on to his hard drive and burn me .aif files. Is there anything special he needs to do to make sure this will work?

As for the DVD, I'll do that...thanks. Is that an option going out of FCP through Compressor?
