audio for DSLRs

I found the JL to be noisy and essentially an FM radio receiver.

I use a Shure FP24 mounted onboard and I couldn't be happier (well, I could, but there ARE limitations as we know.)

I would be really surprised if the Zoom drifts that much. It's been used a lot and I haven't come across that problem (I do sound post). The DSLR's that shoot true 30.0 fps have a problem with FCP that will throw your audio out of sync but that is more on the order of 3 sec per hour. That particular issue is a FCP bug (or feature depending on who's talking about it).

The juice links have a bad rep for being noisy, and your going into the camera. A Sound Devices (the Sure FP24 is a Sound Devices MixPre rebranded) mixer will go a long way to improving sound. After that a decent recorder is a big plus. A MixPre into a Tascam HD-P2 or a Marantz PMD-671 is a really good combo.

I check my test, my apologies Zoom drifts 1/frame per 10 min.

JL noisy? I just did a test with same mic and recorded simultaneously to JL and Zoom and they pretty much sound the same. I'll post some clips later.

Noiz2, you are right, but at some point all those are loosing one-man-band capability and with Sure FP24 (3-4 times the price of the other solutions).

Honestly the DSLRs brought back new appreciation for hiring good sound man and none of the options are ideal.

.... none of the options are ideal.

Apart from a sound devices 702

Grown up build
On board or Vlock power that can go all day
etc ect

There was mention of another thread about the 702T potentially stuffing timecode into an audio channel of the 5d - now that would be amazing for some stuff

Of course not cheap but will outlast this weeks DSLR

After battery, stability, and physical problems with my Tascam DR100 I decided that decent sound is worth losing a prime or two for

I used a Rode mic for my last film, and after the 1st shoot the audio was way too low. I was using the Rode NTG-2 with the H4n. Any idea why? When I used my Sennheiser Me66, the audio was MUCH louder.
