Audio example GH1 audio vs Sony D50 audio

I took this short clip from a production illustrating the audio quality between the Sony PCM-D50 and the Panasonic GH1.

Microphone used was the AT897 on a boom above the subject pointing down connected to a juicedlink CX231 and then to the D50. Line out from the D50 was attenuated and wired to the GH1's microphone input.

Why did you use the D50 when you already have a juicedlink? How would a test sound without the D50? Just like, mic - > Juicedlink - > GH1.

I have a juicedlink and am so close to buying the GH1 if I can record audio to the GH1 fairly cleanly. Thanks.

The Juicedlink does not record audio. All it does it provide a small amount of preamplification and can supply phantom power. So using that might improve the quality of audio recorded to the camera, (due to using a different microphone), but you are still recording to a "compromised" format.

The D50 actually records to its own memory and delivers a cleaner and more user controllable sound (you can monitor levels both visually and aurally).

ohh ok. thanks. What would be the reason for connecting the D50 the GH1 if the D50 is already recording to itself?

There are two reasons for running the D50 lineout to the GH1.

1. You always have a backup recording.
2. If the quality turns out okay from the GH1 theres no need to sync in post.
