Audio Dropouts

My DVX has, on occasion, had very short audio dropouts while shooting. These dropouts are very short, maybe 3 or 4 frames, and while they are quite infrequent, I'm not sure what to think. The picture quality is fine, but the audio simply drops off and then comes right back in, and I can't hear it while rolling so I don't discover this until back in the edit room.

Has anyone had this happen? Should I run a head cleaner through it? I'm not sure this warrants an expensive professional head-cleaning, but it certainly worries me. I guess shooting two takes of everything is crucial.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew

This could be the record heads... I don't know...I would try cleaning the tape heads in the camera. Also try different tapes to see if these particular tapes are the trouble makers.

Hmm...I have a big work week in two weeks. I'm wondering if buying a new camera is worth it. I have 323 hours on my current DVX...

In fact, I just turned on the camera and if you look at this video, the LCD display is showing some weird flickering timecode display:

This flickering TC problem just started...not sure if it's related to the audio dropout...

I need some advice here.
Pay for a tune-up and risk whether that will actually fix this problem?
Buy a new DVX (which wouldn't break me at this point)?

Like I said, I have some a lot of work coming up and I can't deal with a camera I don't trust. One audio dropout and my whole gig could fall through...

Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew

The timecode anomaly seems to be limited to the 24p setting. You could try a camera reset, then run a tape cleaner through the heads and see how that plays out. Failing that, service the camera & they will test everything. Your camera is still pretty young ( based on the hours ). Servicing the cam should work out well through a reputable authorized service facility.

What's a camera reset? Do you mean powering off then on? If so, I've tried that. Thanks for the tip though...

i just reset the counter and the timecode anomaly is gone and is now displayed correctly. I might get it serviced next week.

A camera reset - resets the camera micro computer. It is a button located under the menu toggle buttons inside the LCD compartment.
