Hi all just a quick question, hopefully its a silly simple thing I'm doing wrong. Basically for a test i did a bit of filming with my af100 of my friend playing the piano. When we put the panny card in his mac he was able to access it immediatly and play back the raw footage- with the sound! Yet when i plugged the card into my windows 7 laptop, i could view the files but not hear any sound! When i imported it into adobe cs4 it played the footage with a loud HHHISSSSSSSSS- made me jump was awful! Any ideas what I'm doing wrong possibly? Thanks Taras

Windows 7 natively supports AVCHD. You may want to check if something messed up your Dolby AC-3 codec. To see the installed codecs, open WMP > Help > About WMP > Technical Support Information. If you do not see the WMP main menu bar, then press Alt. To install AC-3 codec look here for a tiny and elegant DirectShow filter, or here for a robust DivX codec pack that includes AC-3. Hope this helps.

Hi thanks for the quick reply, i downloaded the big pack but still no sound! This is what the audio codecs were:

( i dont know if it was just windows issue though as i cant hear the music in adobe either :S

Try the AC-3 filter, which is a player-independent codec. Do not forget to reboot after install.

Hey, i think its lpcm - that's suppose to be the better one right? And yep rebooted but still nothing :S it's confusing seeming that it sounds great in the mac! But that's no good for me as I own the laptop (windows 7 64bit)

Yes, LPCM or Linear PCM is uncompressed sound and is theoretically better at the same bit depth/sampling rate than Dolby AC-3. LPCM supports up to 8 channels of audio, so it can provide encoding for 7.1 soundtracks. It can support up to 24-bit depth at up to 192 kHz per channel. Dolby AC-3 a.k.a. Dolby Digital 5.1 is a lossy compressed technology that supports up to 6 channels of audio, and so it is limited to 5.1 surround sound and below at 16-bit. The maximum sampling rate supported is 48 kHz per channel. Dolby AC-3 can have a massive reduction of the audio file size 15:1 relative to LPCM. Both of these are among mandatory sound formats for Blu-ray.

And it "just worked" on a Mac ... go figure :-)

I have a number of Win 7 x64 machines, and Panasonic AVCHD plays back without issues in WMP and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.X. This makes me think that something is messed up in Taras' system.

Hey thank you so much! I deleted the divx stuff and downloaded the shark codec and 64bit codec and it works! a MIRICALE! crazy thank you!
