audio delay!

Hi there,
We are shooting a series where the shooters are one-man bands - they interview, shoot & do sound themselves (so rarely does our sound go through a mixing board). Our problem is that we are experiencing significant audio delay when listening through headphones. The interview subjects' audio is somewhat delayed, but the shooter's audio (when directing or asking questions) is HUGELY delayed. This happens when using the internal mic, an external shotgun or a lav mic.
Any one else experience this? Any suggestions on how to fix it?
thanks,
andrea

Yeah, everyone who shoots in 24p on the DVX experiences this.

It has to do with the 3:2 pulldown process happening live from your chipset to the record head.

You can try headphones that offer some isolation from outside/ambient noise.

Re: audio delay!

I just shot an interview last month. I had the talent mic'ed with a lavalier and had that running into a portable mixer then into the camera. I monitored my audio with headphones and didn't notice any sort of delay. Oh yea I was in 24P mode as well.

Re: audio delay!

I believe Barry Green mentioned it was evident in the "A" model and is a byproduct of the improved sync between audio and video in 24p mode.

Which model do you have D1S?

Re: audio delay!

This is why...only if you have an "A" will you notice a delay...woah thats like a little rhymed saying...

Re: audio delay!

Thanks fellas - well, at least I know why its happening. Any other suggestions on how to get around it other than finding headphones that block out ambient noise?
thanks again.

Re: audio delay!

Talk faster....kidding. I haven't found a way around it..but then again I just got used to and now it doesn't bother me a bit.
