Audio Commentaries for the Special Feature DVD

Good question. I'm planning a commentary track since I really don't have much else as far as extras go.
 
I was wondering the same thing. I am willing to bet that they're going to want mpeg audio... but I honestly don't know.

Anyone good at dvd authoring around here? lol
 
Man, commentary tracks are nice. I'm alredy thinking about it. I think I can pulloff some great extra material!

Then again, 6 hours of footage on the DVD will be enough to make Jarred and Barry pretty nusy without any extras!
 
Why not encode to ac3 to accompany your MPEG2 files? That way, there's no rerendering involved on their sides, and the ac3 is a nice small file that's also 5.1 surround capable.

Since they're working in Vegas/DVD Architect (I'm assuming for this as well), they can work with those seamlessly.

That is certainly a good idea. I just want to get an official confirmation from them on what kind of format they would accept for it.
 
I have a one chip camera recording on the whole process... but its more like a home video, and then I interviewed everyone and had them talked about their experience on the set... can this be consider behind the scenes? I don't know if i should send it in with my movie to jared, its a 13 minute flick... a mini-documentary... yes.. I plan on doing audio commentary too :)
 
I would ABSOLUTELY send it. The fact that the quality would be different from the film is even better, in my opinion, as it helps with that rougher behind the scenes look.

Wow, Man. That's exactly what I did, too. I spent more time shooting interviews than the actual movie itself. Heavy.
 
Audio commentary? What a good idea. That'll giive me a chance to explain why certain things suck. How would I produce the commentary in Adobe Premiere Pro? I also own Sound Forge, but I do NOT own Vegas. Should I just do a homemade "ADR" and record commentary to a DV camera while watching playback from my PC or DVD player? That sounds simple enough, doesn't it? Then I can export audio into Sound Forge and encode the sound to AC3 or whatever in Sound Forge, right?
 
If you can encode your soundtarcks/commentaries in AC-3, that would be great. Jarred will be posting a message soon about the deliverables for the DVD because we're going to try and have it ready for Halloween.

Ah, fantastic.

I was hoping we could do an AC-3 output, as we mixed our audio in 5.1 Surround and would hate to lose that in the DVD.

Looking forward to it!
 
Sorry, I am a little behind in the dvd we get to send Barry and Jarred. What exactly can we do to our short we submitted to the contest (make it longer, add credits, etc)? And what extras? I have shot about 8 hours of footage and omitted some really good stuff.

Actually, I wouldn't worry about doing the AC-3 encoding, because you're going to be printing to tape or putting an uncompressed DV file on a DVD. We'll handle to compression on our end. Jarred will have the instruction up soon.
 
Anyone? I just need to know so I can harass the person who owns the editor, so we can get moving on the changes/additions.
 
Yes.. I will be emailing everyone the DVD details.

If you want to do a commentary, its probably the easiest Extra you can add. Just record audio and send it along with the AVI DV file for the DVD. Have the Audio file start at the first frame of the AVI so we can sync it.
