Audio capture problem

Hi everyone. I've got a problem with capturing audio, due to a stupid mistake I made. I'm using a DVX100a. When I was filming, I set channel 1 to record from an external mic, and channel 2 to record from the internal mic. Well, I didn't have the mic turned on. The mic has a switch on it, and it was in the off position. Dumb mistake. So there is no audio on channel 1. Anyway, audio was recorded on channel 2 from the internal mic, but it won't capture to my computer. In fact, if I use a patch cable on the Audio and Video Out jacks to play back on a TV, I don't get audio through the TV either. But I can hear the audio through the internal speaker on my DVX, so I know it's there.

I normally use a small Sony HC30 for capturing, and I get the same result on either camera.

I'm kind of new at this, so I apologize if this is a dumb question. I searched the forum, and I'm really stuck. Any ideas what I need to do to capture the audio?

Hi Calico, thats a wierd one. Might I suggest you post in the NLE specific forum. Maybe it has something to do with the software you are using.

ncje, thanks for the tip. I tried a different NLE (Vegas), and the results got even stranger. When capturing, I can see the audio wave form, indicating there is sound, but when I play the clip, I don't hear anything. The sound on my computer is working though, cause I can hear everything else.

I right clicked on the clip in Vegas, and chose 'Open in Sound Forge'. Once there, I could see the wave form, but still couldn't hear it. I then saved the file as a .wav file, and opened it in Windows Media Player. The player displayed 'visualizations' showing that it detected audio, but I still don't hear anything. This is bizzare.

At this point, I'm just wondering what's wrong with this tape and file so that I can avoid this in the future. But I did find a work-around. Sound can be heard through the headphone jack of my 100a. When capturing the video, I plugged an iRiver into the headphone jack, and recorded the sound. I then imported that sound into my NLE alongside the video file, and it worked great. But I still don't get what the underlying problem is here.
