Audio Bags

Sondista, thanks. It sounds like I'll have enough room for my modest setup. Sam, I hear ya about evenly distributing the weight. I have multiple protruded discs, and I need all the help I can get. I'll do this gig and see how it feels, then most likely get a harness. I take it that the harness' are usable on any petrol bag?

I have a Kata OVH harness and a Versa-Flex harness, both of which work with my Petrol Deca bag (although I'll probably save my Versa-Flex harness for when I eventually need to get a bigger bag.)

Thanks Pete - that's good to know. I did notice that the Kata audio bags were very expensive for the amount of space you get. Are their harness' reasonable?

I think so. Mine came with the Sound Devices 302 ENG package but they go for about $115 on B&H:

One thing I don't like is the way it wraps around your waits. The two ends connect with plastic pieces that can sometimes dig into your hip, depending on how low it sits near your wait. Other than that, I really like the harness for the smaller bag.

I have a Versa-Flex harness that I use with the 302 bag and also with a Pegz1. It is very comfortable and the faders are always right to hand--not slipping around to the side as with a shoulder strap.

I've had the http://www.pro-sound.com/HH/SPETPEHRN.html and really like it. It is a bit big but on a long day makes a big difference. I'm also for any of the pertrol bags. I've used booth portabrace and petrol bags. I think the portabrace are more flexible but are somewhat messy. The Petrol are much cleaner and organized, but not as flexible and heavier.

Yes the Pertol stuff looks best to me, though it's hard to tell by just looking at a photo. Absolutely nobody in my area has an audio bag, or a set-up for running audio for video. Belker, I like the looks of that Versa-Flex harness. Does it come in multiple sizes? I've gotten fat lately and I need something for a big guy.

As said before, I own a Petrol bag, but I have worked with other brands' bags. Porta-Brace are stiffer and more solid than Petrol thus preferable, but also much more expensive. I don't know about Kata.

Sure, the harness comes in three sizes. I bought the newer breathable harness in the mid-size--BHS2. I am about 5'9'' and weight around 155lb. I have the adjustments drawn as tight as they can go and it fits well over just a shirt. I could let it out a good bit if I wanted to wear it over a coat. There is also a larger size. You should call them and ask which size would fit your particular body type.
