Audio Auto Leveling / blow out

So I've had my DVX100b for a while, and friggen love it(of course, duh). Anyways, I upgraded from a GL2 and one of the things I liked about the GL2 is no matter how loud the audio got from whatever it was filming(unless out of a car window), it was able to auto-level the audio and keep it from blowing completely out of proportion...

But it seems that on the DVX, you do have the ability to select what level you want it to record at, but it can't auto level it, so if something is going to be loud, it won't level it, it just lets it blow out..

Am I missing a setting? Is there something I can get to fix this? It's annoying because when I'm interviewing someone, or filming ANYthing with any sort of noise, if anything unexpected comes, or the volume of what i'm filming raises, i have to manually adjust both channels of audio, which is QUITE annoying..

Anything?

Thanks,

DVX doesn't have auto level control. You can put the limiter on, but that only helps attenuate the loud sounds, it doesn't ride the overall volume control efficiently.

I usually put one of the audio at least 3db lower. incase of anything loud moments, i still have something usable. As Barry said. use the limiter

I didn't try it yet but I think it'll be good and not too expansive "work around".
All You need is MD player/recorder such a Sony MZ-NH900 and an external mic. Connet mic to MD, turn MD's AGC on (Auto Gain Control), connect line output from MD to Panasonic's XLR in (switch it to line mode). You don't have to record audio to MD. Just push rec and pause simultanoulsy - you're just monitoring audio signal and MD outputs it to your camera. :-) I think it must be working well.

P.S. Sorry for my poor English. :o)
