Audio at Wedding Reception

When previously shooting with my DVX and DVC as second cam, I usually left the DVC audio on automatic which generally did a good job of recording the loud music at even levels without distortion (the quality seemed better than my DVX).

Now I am changing over to two HMC150 and am a little worried about getting a decent audio track. Firstly I have to remember to keep adjusting the dials but I'm concerned that the the Rode NTG1 and internal mic recording to a channel each wont be able to cope with the high levels. In Barry's book he does mention that even with the dials set accuratley, the mic(s) can get overloaded and distortion can occur.

I will be using a Zoom H2 standing at an (hopefully) appropriate place as backup but really want to be able to rely on camera audio too.

How my DVC managed to get decent unclipped \ distorted audio all the time and my DVX not I dont know..

Suggestions appreciated, thanks

I haven't had the problem Barry mentions at weddings. Myybe it could happen if you stood in front of a speaker. Any mic can be overloaded if the cricumstances are harsh enough I guess.
