audio and lighting in a bar

Ok. I'm shooting a documentary interview in a bar with a physicist. Two things. First audio:using the DVX 100B with a mounted Rode NTG-2 mike, is that enough to cut through the bar noise? How?
Second, lighting: do I really need to add it, or can I use available dark bar lighting for effect, with certain scene settings?

Whaddya think?

Thanks.

Are you shooting at the bar counter? If so, most bars have lights there. See if you can get them to turn those on. You could use the technique on Apple's website where you reflect light with a sturdy white board also.

The dim lighting of a bar is a good way to conceal skin imperfections, but on the other hand documentaries/interviews are usually well lit.

So a documentarian and a physicist walk into a bar . . .

Well actually, we'd like to shoot the interview during regular evening hours (with normal dark bar lighting), at a table against a wall, as a 2 shot. In 24p adv, is increasing the gain enough...are there any effective scene settings possible, without having to add extra lighting?
