Attention 108024PA Users

for our upcoming project I have been working on some workflows for a double system. We're going to use Titan software for conforming at Post.
I have found out some nasty things when shooting 108024PA.
the platform on which i did the test was Intel 8 core Mac, OSX 10.4.11 and FCP 6.04.

for this workflow I used Firestore and direct laptop recording. softwares used for DLR were HDmonitor Pro, Scopebox, FinalCut.

All footages came out of firewire port of HVX200.
The stick were randomly throughout the footage. (5-10 times).

I tried every file type that is hosed outta firewire(quicktime and P2) and the result was the same.
PS: i can not confirm that this would happen on P2 cards or PC as well since i don't have one.

After removing redundant frames, i have observed;

1. glitches on the top of the frame (every 4 frame)

Thread 01
Thread 02
Thread 03

2. the duration of the clip changed. (2-5 frames on p2 format, 10-20sec on QT format)

3. the audio on the camera is off 1-2 frames(before/after the removing the frames)

Wow. I just shot a feature with TWO cameras and TWO FireStores in 1080 24PA and the footage is fine. I shot everything in Quicktime mode however...

Hi Chris
you couldn't observe the "duration" bug because Firestore removed the frames on the fly. you got non-compatible warning during the import. right?

check your synch thoroughly if you recorded the audio on HVX.
it is 1-2 frames off on both quicktime and P2 file format.
it's there:(

if anybody can re-produce these bugs, please let us know

after seeing all those problems on the threads you mentioned I decided do a test myself, it can easy go undescovered, the line is so small on some of those pictures, anyway I will be posting pics tonight but so far I can tell you that the problem could be the camera or the version of fcp you are using, I am running 6.02
and I remember a while back when I was using 6.01 I remember doing some test on 1080 24pa to the p2 card and going log and transfer and the weird thing is that final cut would not remove the pulldown automatically, you had to do it yourself, now in 6.02, which is what I am running now, it does it automatically when you load the footage, this could be the problem, maybe 6.03 is the problem, either that or the camera, I just did a test and went frame by frame on a 10 second clip and there is no sign of a line or skiping frames

I get the same artifact (the magenta/green line) in my 1080/24pA footage on Windows. I see it in Premiere Pro CS3, After Effects CS3, P2 Viewer, and P2Forge. I'd be inclined to say that operating system and editing software have nothing to do with it, but I don't think it's a problem with every camera either, as some (many? most?) don't report it. But I know it's there in my footage, and even shows on export.

The magenta line thing has been talked to death. But if anyone's seeing any of the other problems, please post. (I have not, but I don't work in FCP.)

Thanks David
to all
these are very serious bugs and re-produceable.
bug#2 and bug#3 are something i'd never come across on DVXuser.
please get the word out for a solution

Yeah, I got the warning.

I transfered my clips to a Mac 1.67 GHz laptop & imported them into FCP Studio and I haven't noticed a sync issue and yeah I did record audio to the FireStore. I gotta say though, a 1 or 2 frame discrepancy in sync doesn't really worry me.

I'll take a closer look at my clips and see if I can spot any of these issues.

I have never personally encountered this. Can someone who has this problem post a short sample clip in its original form? I'm talking about an archive with a complete P2/MXF structure, not something that's undergone pulldown removalm rewrapped into QuickTime containers, or converted to another codec like H.264.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure if I understand completely.
Is there any way that I can get 1080 lines of resolution at 24 native from the hvx?

Would I encounter any of these problems when shooting 1080 24p regular and then reverse telecining in cinema tools?

I'd be delighted: 27mb zip download. It's only about 1 second long, but it's in there. In fact, this is in every second of 1080/24pA I've ever shot--I can't find a clip WITHOUT this artifact. Here's a screen grab that shows the line in all its magenta glory, just for reference.

Thanks for taking a look at this.

Pretty sure THoff was referring to the sound synch issue. But anyway, when you do this, be sure to include the LastClip.txt file.
