Atomos Shogun Inferno new firmware & Varicam LT

Great news.
"If you're a Shogun Inferno 4K recorder user, you might want to consider updating to AtomOS 8.4 as it now brings 10-bit Raw 2K 100/120/200/240p to ProRes and DNX, 12-bit Raw to CDNG up to 4K 30p and 10-bit Raw 2K 100/120p to CDNG for the Panasonic Varicam LT. With this release, Shogun Inferno now has raw support for Sony, Canon and Panasonic cinema cameras".

Game changer for Varicam LT shooters? Now that the Inferno can take a 12-bit signal from the LT, is there anything the Odyssey 7Q+ offers that makes it worth twice the price (factoring in RAW license) as the Inferno?

The O7Q+ is smaller/thinner (lighter?) than the Inferno. It can also record 2K 240p raw. Another thing I've seen people complain about the Inferno is the fan, some say it's really noisy.
On the other hand the Inferno has a screen which is brighter with higher resolution.

So I would say both are good, depending on your needs.

The Odyssey 7Q+ is better built than the Atomos Shogun Inferno.
The Odyssey 7Q+ uses its alluminium body to dissipate the heat (the Inferno uses a noisy fan).
The Odyssey 7Q+, combined with the VariCam LT, is able to record 4K Raw up to 60p and 2K Raw up to 240fps. The Inferno can't do it.

Does someone know how it works? I can't shoot anything else than 4k 25p so far. Does it require dual SDI?

Ok, I figured it out.
I did some testing and don't see any difference between 4k AVC INTRA 422 and 4k 12 bit RAW. I'm really surprised. Zooming 600%, pushing the grades to the extremes. That's the reason why OITNB was shot using the AVC INTRA 422 codec. It's incredibly solid. I guess, apart from heavy VFX and lots of details in a shot, it's not worth it.

That must have been with the Odyssey then since the Inferno does not record 4K 12bit Raw from the LT. Can you make some Intra422 and CDNG files available for us to compare and check? I have the Atomos Flame and with 4k 10 bit Raw I saw a marginal improvement from the raw images over the Intra422 in terms of noise. The noise was more like tight grain in the Raw whereas in the Intra422 it was more patchy. But that was only in underexposed areas. When properly exposed, the difference is negligible. Either way the Raw files are too huge to be usable. Curious about 12 bit though.

Just read my first message in this thread. Atomos released a new firmware allowing 12bit Raw. I'll post some examples.
