Atomos Samurai for monitoring from a jib???

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked before but has anyone used an Atomos Samurai for not only recording but monitoring as well... I have a shoot coming up where I will be using a Jib and want to monitor the shots from height! I was thinking separate monitor and Nano when I thought the Atomos would possibly kill those two birds with the one stone??? Obviously a long HD SDI cable would be needed...

Thoughts please

Not a chance. The screen is only good for menu navigation and signal confirmation. it is no substitute for a real monitor.

Hey Doug,

Cheers for the response ... Thats a pity I looked at the Ninja2 and the screen looked pretty good (although indoors) I heard the prob was sun/light reflection, could this be sorted with a shade???

Nah, it's doable with a sunshade.
Sometimes my focus puller needs the TVLogic in a position where I can't see it.
I use the Samurai in that case, works fine for me.

Not the super fancy image, but good enough for framing - and since the new peaking and false color - even a halfway decent monitor for exposure and focus pulling.
I even use it as my main monitor when I strip the camera down and don't want the v-mount battery and all.

Sunshade is crucial though.

Cheers Frank ... Its a tight budget (as always) so being able to use the screen as a monitor for basic framing and peaking is pretty cool

I stand by my first comments, and wish you luck if you decide to use the Samurai for monitoring the camera on a jib. Enjoy focusing and judging exposure with it.

Cheers Doug lol ... I will probably only use it for keeping the composition correct as the shots will be pre focussed/exposed ...

Cheers for the comments, if the shoot comes off I will let you know how I got on
