FS5: Atomos recorders getting CDNG support March 27th

Not sure about other Atomos devices, but for the original Shogun, Atomos has already provided a beta version with which you can record raw 4K DCI up to 30fps. I tested it with the FS5, it works.
You have to find a LUT that convert the raw linear into a Slog2/3 format. Per my knowledge only Convergent Design provide such LUT.

As far as I remember, the Beta only came for the OG Shogun (and some said it was buggy, so an update from beta to wide release is still a good thing, fingers crossed) I've got the Inferno, personally.

Still no firmware update on their website.
March 27th they mentioned, it was this year or in 2018?

Not only did they not actually roll it out, but no word as to what's going on. Not sure why they would announce that it will be out in a few days, if it wasn't already ready to go. Atomos and Blackmagic have quite a track record with stuff like this.

The new Shogun firmware (v6.7) is now available for download. As expected, it seems to be a stable version of the previous v6.6beta that was already offering CDNG recording.

From the PDF
"...the worlds’ first monitor-recorders to offer CDNG recording on a single SSD".
I think Convergent would have a thing or two to say about this. I record 24p 4k CDNG on my Odyssey all the time. Two SSD's are only needed for some of the high speed modes.

Who cares? That is a fight between two companies. With the Shogun 1 the new implementation works fine. Positive: recording can take place for up 4K DCI 30p (but no UHD) or 2K. What I find great is that recording to ProRes or DNxDR works, but no
Slow motion seems to work here.

Hi,

Atomos released FW 8.2 for the Shogun Inferno yesterday and I tried it immediately. First mistake on my side: I bought a 4TB SSD which didn't work because the device doesn't support GPT -> I had to switch to MBR which limits the size to 2TB per partition. So my advice: 2TB max for your SSD.
I was in hurry so I recorded 30sec of CDNG with my FS7 but I only had a short look into it. Didn't see any obvious problems except that these 30sec produced 10GB in 4k@25p.. insane :)

Cheers,
Alex
