Hi,

I have a Atomos Ninja and I am looking to buy a HDD for the device from PCWORLD. Can someone please confirm that the Hitachi Travelstar 320GB / 7200 rpm 16 mb is compatible with the Ninja? I know on the Atomos website it says that the Hitachi Travelstar HTS543232 320GB / 5400 rpm is compatible with the Ninja. But I am not sure if the one from PCWORLD is compatible aswell, if someone could help?

Thanks

Unofficially speaking, pretty much all standard 2.5" Sata drives produced in the last couple of years *should* be compatible. The amount of cache and the RPM should not have anything to do with compatibility (unless, of course, you're trying to record at an extremely high bit rate, in which case 7200rpm is preferable).

Hard drive specs and models will change and new ones will come out a few times per year. It's impossible for companies to test all drives and as long as the drive meets SATA specifications, you *should* be fine.

It should be fine. We can't test all drives and all variations of them, but Hitachi on the whole are very good. Most of the differences are in the drives' ability to stand up to vibration and the gracefulness with which they shut down if the going gets too tough. We recommend Hitachi and WD drives precisely because they not only perform well but seem to be able to withstand somewhat rougher treatment.
