This has got us baffled..
An indie short film project I shot recently on a combo of Panasonic AF101 recording to Atomos Ninja set to Pro Res HQ then edited on FCP is showing weird artifacts on export to Quicktime ProRes. This manifests as an overlapping of the frames with what looks like interlacing mismatch at the non overlapping edges. (see still here; www.garryturnbull.com/media/FCPMotionArtifact.jpg )
In FCP with the viewer set to 50% all is well and there is no evidence of this problem. Set the viewer to 100% and up it pops! Set the viewer to 200% and again it looks OK, no problem apparent.
Any attempt to export either a still frame or movie file from FCP will immediately bring on this strange effect.
Whatever FCP is doing to create correct images in the time line, it seems to immediately abandon when asked to export anything…..
Interestingly, all slo-mo footage – 50fps AVCHD files direct from the AF101 log & transferred into FCP within the project – plays perfectly in all situations.
Our editor is flummoxed and at the hair pulling stage so I promised tonight to post here hoping that someone somewhere has had a similar experience and can throw some light on this situation. Can it just be a prefs setting that we are missing?
Is the HDMI 50i material from the camera recorded by the Ninja being misinterpreted by FCP in an attempt to deinterlace? Also, any attempt to deinterlace in FCP only makes it worse.
Here's hoping and thanks in advance,
