GH4 Atomos Ninja Assasin: Yes or not?

Hi people,

I'm considering adding a Ninja Assasin to my GH4 but in some reviews I can see difference between internal recording 4:2:0 and external 4:2:2 10 bits. In the other hands, V-Log in internal recording is ugly showing blocks in skies and similar -going back to Cinelike D after that, of course-.

So, do i keep using internal recording with Cinelike D or move to 10 bits?

Thanks!

I like that it offers DNxHR. Same quality as ProRes, but none of the issues of QuickTime.

But the lack of C4K would keep me from spending money. I want the full 4096 x 2160 raster.

What are these issues with Quicktime that you speak of? Are these issues PC-related?

I did a quick google search of DNxHR and Premiere Pro and I found some reports of that codec not being supported, or having import/export failures, especially on Windows systems.

What are the benefits of DNxHR over ProRes?

Because QuickTime is a program and something that needs to be installed, there have been bugs on occasion. Search around for "QuickTime gamma". That's just one.

This is in contrast to AVI and MXF, which are simple container formats and don't need to be "installed" in order to work. They just...work.

Support for DNxHR (in the MXF container) was added in the newest release of Premiere Pro on December 1st, 2015. It was not supported before that, it is now.

The benefit of DNxHR is that you don't need QuickTime.

I really like my Videodevices Pix-e5 (has SDI) - the E5H is a little less both do C4K. They will trigger record the GH4 - where you hit record on the camera and they start recording.
