Atomos Ninja 3, BMD Shuttle 3, Future External HDMI Recording Options

Darren Levine posted in another thread (one of the RX10 ones?) about his and many others' desire for a budget ultra-compact, external recorder for hdmi signals ( hopefully to an U3 SD card). I concur!!

All of these "clean" hdmi-out cameras make it seem ripe for just such a device. Darren mentioned a BMD petition, has this been started?

What do you guys think of the feasibility and time line for such a device? Appear at NAB and then released when?

On the next generation of external recorders (with and w/o a monitor) mentioned in the title, what are we likely to see feature set-wise - and will price points stay the same?

I am personally looking to make make two investments in this regard:

1) ultra-compact external recorder for my RX-10 (or any mirrorless with suitable EVF and focus peaking/etc). Darren's pocket SD recorder in a battery-grip tripod mount form...would be a dream. If it was priced right I could just get two and just have a dedicated monitor when shooting on a rig/sticks.

2) an external monitor to pull focus on my D800E (on rig w/ FF). I'd also prefer to get an external recorder from the same purchase...so it's looking like a Samurai Blade; or potentially a Ninja 3 is going to be the best fit. CD Odyssey 7 looks fantastic; but the combination of proprietary expensive (unjustified as a non-pro) ssd drives and (justified) unit price make it unsuitable for me at this point. The monitor/recorder would also then be paired to a future GH4; which we can safely say will not have SDI-out, correct (and if so, with the Blade I'd be covered anyways)?

I have read uniform opinion that the Ninja 2 is useless to pull focus. Is Atomos likely to make the Ninja 3 a SDI-less Samurai Blade at a lower price and potentially useful to pull focus?

Are there other external monitor options to mention? Professional products like Teradek's Bolt (http://www.teradek.com/) that can send an ultra-low latency video signal to a monitor/laptop/tablet look interesting. A stripped down, cheap wired version I could connect to a Surface Pro/tablet would be even more interesting.
