Atlanta: HDV tape to Hard Drive

Hey folks, not sure where to post this but I need someone to help me transfer Sony HDV tapes to a Hard Drive. I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible. I only have 2 tapes so I don't want to rent a deck that I'll only use for 2 hours. I'm in the Atlanta/Stone Mountain area.

Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks!

I think I have a friend in that area that has a camera you could use, how much you willing to throw down?

Aren't HDV tapes just mini Dv tapes with the letters "HDV" printed on the side of them?
My understanding is that the tapes are the same as any mini dv tape, and once footage is recorded to them they can be captured with any minidv deck/camera?

I mean, data is data right. it's not going to play back any differently on different devices.

That's not the case. While the tapes certainly are the same, the video data recorded on them is completely different. HDV is MPEG2 (unlike DV's intraframe format) and therefore only compatible with HDV devices. Standard-def MiniDV tapes, however, will playback in both MiniDV and HDV devices.
