ATI 7200 Fire GL

Our computer lab just installed new computers with ATI 7200 Fire GL video and now the video freezes. Does any one know of a conflict with this card and possibly a workaround?

Thanks,
Gopher

I assume these are PCs and not Macs.

ATI cards in a PC don't typically work with Avid. You should switch it out for an nVidia Quadro card. Here is the list of approved cards for Xpress Pro--the PCI Express cards should work with Media Composer too (you don't say what version of Avid you're running).

Graphics Cards (Workstations)
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 3500 PCI Express
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 3450 PCI Express
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 3400 PCI Express
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 1500 PCI Express
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 1400 PCI Express
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 1300 PCI Express
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 560 PCI Express
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 550 PCI Express
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 3000 AGP 8X
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 1100 AGP 8X
  • NVIDIA QuadroFX 500 AGP 8X

Yes it is a PC, and running vista or xp in 32 bit mode on a 64 bit machine. I know the card is not approved by Avid and have been in touch with Avid. Our current work around is using the old machines until the end of the semester and then switching over to Macs. I was hoping to find a workaround other than every class period unplugging keyboards, monitors and mouses to plug in the old computers. This is a multiuse classroom and we have no control over it, unfortunatly.

The only other thing I know to try is to hold L and O on the keyboard as the Avid software is loading. If you're running the latest versions of Avid, this will force it into Legacy Overlay, which will disable something and may get your ATI cards working.

Otherwise, there's not much to do except get approved cards. I understand you don't have control over it though--I teach Avid editing at a local college and the machines we're using are ancient. Luckily they run the program, but I wouldn't count on them for anything deadline driven. They work for class though.

Yeah, I tried that same issue. I think it has to do with a 64 bit system running in 32 mode and the way the PCIe graphic card. Next semester we will be in a new building with our own lab, so we just have to limp along this semester. Thanks for your response!

I once built a dual Xeon system (604) with Supermicro X6DAL-B2 motherobard, ATI FireGL 7100 and XP Pro. I installed Avid Xpress Pro and it worked without any problem. I played with it for a few days but, then I decided to go another route.
