AT3350 to DVX100a?

My old ME66 and my vintage Shure SM58 both work well going straight into the XLR on the DVX. Likewise with Samson and Sennheiser wireless setups using the appropriate adaptors.
Needed a cheap lav for a quick sitdown interview and picked up an AT3350is with a 3.5mm mini plug output.
Going througha mini to XLR adaptor into the DVX I get nothing! Zip, zero. It does work with an old Walkman pro tape recorder with it's buil in 20db pad.
Yes, all the settings are correct: mic battey installed correctly, power switch on and camera settings ok, phantom power off on both channels.
I know the adaptor is good, because I connected the dynamic SM58 with an XLR to mini adaptor and plugged that into the adaptor on the camera...even with the reverse adaptors, the sound is fine at a good recording level.

The DVX has -50 and -60db mic input settings and no apparent way to disable them in menu.
Do these cheap "powered condenser" mics need more pre-amp than the DVX provides?
Thanks for any info.

The ATR 3350 has a TRS output plug that is wired for unbalanced "dual-mono". That means that the tip and ring are connected together.
If you use a "normal" 3.5mm TRS to XLR adapter, that means that you are shorting pin 2 to pin 3 which will give you exactly zero audio into an XLR balanced input.
You did not identify exactly what XLR adapter you used, but it seems quite likely that is your problem.

You simply need a 3.5mm to XLR adapter that is wired differently.
Or, if you intend to use the ATR 3550 permanently for XLR use, you can chop the 3.5mm plug off and install an XLR directly.

Thanks Richard, I never thought of that. Yes, the adaptor is "normal". I'll get a male XLR and lose the mini plug. The mic wires would go to pin 1 and 3 right?
