I can get a DVX100 for around $3000 after the rebate. Not sure if the price will change on the Sony V1 but it is around $4200. The Canon A1 is $4,000. That is $1,000 to $1200 cheaper.

So I could get the DVX, a mic, and I can get a heck of a discount on FCP through my wifes job, $500. (I will double check that) I can't upgrade but for that price who cares.

So I can probably come in under $4,000 buying the DVX100b and other stuff.
The Canon A1 might be nice but I'm getting ask to put money down on a camera I've seen no reviews on, very little footage. I can't do that.

The Sony V1 looks pretty good too, but to many ifs on it. The only footage I've seen on that are guys parasailing around in the sun. Why is that all they will show?

Not sure about the 24p scan.

But the DVX100 has one heck of a track record. It is hard to argue with what it has done and can do. The biggest problem is no 16:9 but that hasn't stopped many people. I don't care about HD right now.

I dunno about the very little footage comment on the A1. There are 30+ clips from Kaku Ito produced straight-to-tape from the G1 floating around on DVinfo.net as I type this and they all speak for the camera in a situation where the user has very little knowledge of settings and camera.

Of course, you're going to have a hard time finding a support group like DVXuser for just about any other camera, and that in itself is a huge sell.

If you don't think you need HD, then it sounds like a DVX100b with more production toys is the winning solution.

I haven't been able to watch and .mt2 footage on my mac. If you know of any links that are in another format let me know.

I guess this is Canon's way of marketing but it is no good for me. "here is our new camera. Trust us"

Oh. Yeah, I wouldn't judge the A1 until I've at least seen footage posted, if I were you. You might think twice about jumping to HD for just 1k more.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Free download. I have it on my G5. It even allows you to play with the contrast, saturation, gamma, etc of video clips. Please, do yourself a favor and amp the saturation and contrast on the m2t's. Watch how well the picture holds up.

And then, watch these on an HDTV if you can. I have my PC streaming to my HD CRT at home... needless to say it's a steal at 4k.

Edit: i'm not trying to talk you into a camera purchase. Your comment about the A1 footage and reviews not being posted caught me off-guard. There aren't many reviews, but there's footage available that reflects that it's on par with the 8-9k H1.

I understan that people are saying the H1 and the A1 are going to be the same, but maybe not.

I'll try downloading that player again, but I can never get it to work.

PM me if you're having troubles with it. I got it to work without issue when I DL'd it, but that was like earlier this year.

plus like I said, even if I get the Ai or the V1 I still have to buy FCP, plus I will have to spend more to get my computer running faster, external storage. $1,000 more for the camera, probably another bare min of $500 for computer needs.

Oh, definitely do what's best for you. Like I said, my response to your thread was because you stated that there wasn't any footage available when there was. Just didn't know if you knew that or not.

If 100b suits you then 100b it is. It's not my money nor my place to tell anyone what's best for their wallet. =DDD

ok I downloaded it and when I double click on the ICON I get a little VLC player pops up. Now what? Try playing a clip? I think I did this before and my mac didn't repond to it.

Do you have a link to a clip handy?

No really I appriciated your asking me about it. It is not a easy choice and I could change tomorrow again!! Just kind of gathering facts from people. In the end I know it will be my choice,,,,

Have a blast. I have them all, some of them do not work for whatever reason. One that does is 24fhndykite.m2t. It's the Kite one. Bright day, bright colors.

When you download it, delete the .txt from the back end of the file name. Then, click on VLC and drag the .m2t file into the clip control bar. You'll get an error, but it plays flawlessly. I think the error has something to do with the way he imported into FCP.

If you don't care about hd, and you aren't too concerned about 16:9, then why not just save the money and get the dvx. through and through. Sounds like a win, win, win situation. You get a camera that has been tried and tested through and through, and is still being used on programs that are airing on national television, you get to save money, and you get a huge support group from dvxuser

To me, there's no greater benefit to Panasonic cameras than this forum; that in itself is a reason to purchase the DVX if it suits you.

yes and trying to deal with HD/HDV even now is a hassle.

Are you right clicking and saving? I don't get why you're getting an error at all.

I click on the link you gave me. Then I clicked on the link with the kites and others. Only the numbers and letters you see above is what pops up.

should I right click on the link maybe?

Follow the link I gave you. It'll take you to DVinfo and the thread with the m2t clips. Right click any of those links and "download linked file" or whatever it says.
