at my wit's end

this problem is driving me crazy - I'm producing a Powerpoint video for a client for a tradeshow kiosk -lots of imbedded video files (WMV). All the linked video plays fine on my desktop, but when I move it to my laptop (the folder with all the associated files), when I play the slideshow, the linked videos just show as a white screen.

I've tried all the helps, inlcuding deleting and relinking to no avail. MS PPT Help says that the path is to long, but that didn't solve the problem.

the laptop is a Dell E1705, and the gotcha is that this just started, previous PPTs played OK. I suspect a codec problem, or a video overlay screen problem, but I am at a loss.

I am grabbing at straws here hoping someone else has seen this and can help,

It sounds like an issue with the laptop reading the wmv files. Will they play on the laptop without the powerpoint interface?

Ah, this problem plagues powerpoint. You have to create the video files again to make it work. Don't know why but this is the only thing that works. Its happened to me a bunch of times with animations and video files.

PK has a book?

do in deed try playing the files on the target machine outside powerpoint.

Also, doesn't powerpoint have some sort of "transfer show to presentation machine" option that moves all the necesarry files too?

PK has a book?! why am I always the last to know?

As for the PPT, sorry man I don't know, never used PP much in my life...

sorry for the unintended reference - I don't think I'm as creative a PK.

All the WMV files were created from raw source using an NLE. The WMV files play fine in WMP11 on the laptop. Once the WMV is linked in the PPT, they will not play in the PPT slideshow. I have to think its a PC problem.

Ah, Beat Takeshi, what did you mean specifically by "You have to create the video files again"?

Your moving the WMV and the powerpoint together, and withen the same directory i assume, if your powerpoint you created has the video linked at
d:/videoz/etc/etc/etc/video.wmv
and you move it over to the computer your playing it on to
c:/yourmom/etc/etc/etc/video.wmv
your going to have issues.
