At least 3 films at Sundance done with DVX100A

Hi,

Three films are showing at Sundance that were done with the DVX100A.

Oh My God, John Bryant(total upstart) but sounds fun
Lonesome Jim, Steve Buscemi, Director
Rock School, Don Argott, New Market Films

There are probably others, but it is hard to figure it all out.

Yippee.

If any others, please post.

Best,

Jan

I will definatly have to check those out, since I live in Park City.... ;D

5 days till the rush of people with their black clothes and starbucks raid this town.

Re: At least 3 films at Sundance done with DVX100A

Amazing, I can't wait to see what the ratio of indie films shot with electonic media vs film is in the next 5 years. I was just watching something I finished with another person, and anytime I show stuff people are just amazed at the image the dvx puts out. Video technology is changing so fast.

SkiUtah---- So, you are from Park City? Very cool, I live in Sugarhouse, maybe we can wok on a project sometime?

Re: At least 3 films at Sundance done with DVX100A

Nothing like Sundance to pull all the Utahn's out of the woodwork! :D

I'm in Orem, and plan to be in Park City for most of the festival.

In relation to the movies shot with the DVX, I knew Buscemi was working on something with a DVX, but wasn't sure what it was. I'm definately gonna have to check that one out.

Bummer, I can't seem to work it into the silly schedule I have, I am only at Sundance for 3 days. But none the less very cool.

Thanks Chris,

Jan

Will Panasonic have any kind of a both or anything that we will be able to visit? I remember last year there was a Tech Center at the top of main street, but I don't know if that is back this year.

Hi,

Unfortunately the only camera manufacturer allowed is Sony, Sundance only allows "one of" for sponsorships, and they get to hang out in the Digital Media Center. The Sponsor gets to keep that space until they relinquish it, so basically Sony has had the space for years. I am here for the seminars and the films.

Sorry,

Jan

November will be out in theaters around April-June of this year (2005).

If you want to check out some of the visual effects/motion title info on the movie, the composer, Lew Baldwin's company handled the vis. effects/title, and he scored it.

Lew's co. is http://www.team-agency.com

Dan Mirvish's low-budget "Open House" should be seeing a release fairly soon. I saw a company representing it for theatrical/home video at AFM back in November. That was also shot on the DVX.

My bud, Mark Borchardt (who was in "the tunnel", as well as the subject of "american movie") has been shooting his feature, "Scare Me", with the DVX-100, and I think he picked up an 'A' model too, and adding footage with that now.

So, the future looks bright for Panasonic 24p fo' sho'.

Best Wishes and Clean Dishes,

R

Bloodshot

Thanks for the link oin November; its the first time i have seen any actual footage from it! Thank you! It looks wonderfully shot!

Re: At least 3 films at Sundance done with DVX100A

No problem... yes, it looks beautiful.

I can't wait to see what people think of the cinematography on "Black Dahlia"... The DVX can be magical, if it's used to its fullest potential... and the more abstract you get, and the more you play with color and light... the more amazing this thing can be.

Cool beans.

Well it is now five films at Sundance. Saw another today called Murderball. Wow! Documentary about Parapelegic Wheelchair Rugby Olympian level. Cool story, well shot, all the best stuff in a documentary.

And the footage was stunning, save for a couple of clips, which were not 24P, and a couple that were severe low light. They started the film with a different camera, not Panasonic, but shifted to the DVX once it was released.

Shown uprezzed the HDCam 16:9.

Also saw Rock School on 35mm Blow Up. Looked great! Also 16:9. This too was real interesting about a Rock School in Philly. The teacher Paul Green is a Rockaholic and his students are amzingly talented. There was this one little kid that could play like Jimi Hendrix or Frank Zappa. And he was on like 10 years old. The footage looked good too. ;-)

More later,

Jan

Re: At least 3 films at Sundance done with DVX100A

According to the Hollywood Reporter:

More than half of the chosen projects this year [at Sundance] were shot on film — that's a total of about 125 films, with about 75 captured on 35mm and 50 shot on 16mm or Super 16.

Digital video is the next most popular format, with 47 projects shot on mini-DV. Just 11 projects were shot on high-definition video, and six to seven were shot on standard-definition video.

Re: At least 3 films at Sundance done with DVX100A

Thanks for point that out Jan. When I was looking through the Independent I noticed that all the movies were shot on "Sony MiniDv"...
