Aston Origin cardioid studio condenser sounds better than it costs $299.

Thanks Ty and Dave!

I'm looking forward to your followup review of the Aston Spirit (a multi-pattern LDC mic).

Somewhere, in the distant murky past, I read where a U 87 was boomed.

Lord Help me.

Regards,

Ty Ford

Well with those big rolling boom cranes you could boom just about anything.

But I have heard of nobudget films sometimes booming large diaphragm condensers because that is what their "sound guy" had.

Out of curiosity, I tried booming with a C414 once... The cage type shock mount made it unwieldy when moving around, it sounded 'ok' for a fixed stand interview, but not better than mid-priced SDC mics.
OTOH, I love 414s for music recording, usable on practically anything and excels on instruments with complex harmonics.

I have a pretty old 414BLU that is my go to Voice Over mic. I love it and it makes me sound way better than I really am.

We used U87's on our booms all the time when I worked at ITV Tyne Tees......well Fisher booms anyway.

I too am a big fan of the 414 and preferred it as a voice over mic as the slight HF lift helps punch thru for spots and promos.
