Aston Martin commerical

Hi everyone, just shot a commerical for jaguar, Range Rover, Aston Martin and I'm having a little problem on the CC. I'm not sure if I should use the natural colors or put a bullet on it. Here are some of the clips I put together, so maybe someone could point me in the right direction. Thank you

You are going to need itunes to view this.

It's a commercial, so don't go too crazy with colors... personally, I'd keep it pretty natural, but I'd adjust the black levels (maybe crunch the lows a little bit) so that the black car actually looks black. Also, to me the whole thing looks too bright... maybe even a little bit blown out.

Anyway, here's a quick example of keeping it simple:

original:
car1.jpg

quick adjust:
car2.jpg

I know those aren't the best or biggest images to work with, but just a quick example of what I'd probably do in that situation.

Also, you may want to make sure your colors are broadcast safe.

A couple other things that I would adjust:

1) a couple of those fades are pretty dad-burned long, especially that one from the tracking dolly shot to the jaguar - both shots are moving which makes the fade very distracting.

2) it's also distracting or maybe just odd looking at the end to have both cars fade into each other with that exact same shot... can you move the first shot to inbetween her talking sections or something?

Anyway, not trying to pick apart your ad, just maybe give some useful criticism. I did really like that tracking dolly shot... it was well executed, although it did seem to last to long at the end of it.

There is really no need to over cc your original footage the colors are fine for what you are doing. If you want to add a certain mood to the piece then cool but no need to over do it. I would worry about the pacing of the piece it moves rather slow you will lose your audiences attention.

i've never grabbed anyone elses image before and try'd to cc it myself, so i would be interested what you guys say, heres my shot at it

i did that CC in photoshop, is there anyway to export that to fcp, does anyone know? fcp cc's controls confuse me more than photoshops

Jump to Image Ready (If you have it) and save it as a Tiff or a JPeg. Then just import it into FCP.

Thank you all for your comments as always, I like the construtive criticism that's what makes us better. This is not the actual commerical, it's just so I could give you guys an idea of what I was looking for. Yea those fades are pretty shitty looking, sorry I should of just put it out raw. Anyway I saw a Mercedes commerical last night and it looked like it had a MB effect on (its the one where the cloud is chasing the car down a 2 lane road.)

Pastywhiteboy thats not bad, I like that.

Thanks, twocik23.
it was a quicky job, so I probably ended up flattening the colors a little too much, but some of those original colors were too vibrant for my taste (sky looked good, though!).

MB is useful, but some of the more dramatic color grading/correction you'd probably want to save for more action oriented car stuff. I'd like to see that Mercedes ad... do they have it online?

Not sure ... heh hehe. Well, that makes two of us. I have both QTP and 6.0c as well. I just assumed it wouldn't work, and didn't even bother testing it out.

I don't know jack about making commercials, but it seems to me that there is too much empty non narative space at the end of this piece. If I were to edit it by feel (being totalyy ignorant of the technical side) I would put the non narative music stretch at the beginning and have the girl take it all home. But like I said...WTPP do I know?

This is not the commercial, it's something I put together in a few sec. for viewing. By the way, nice CG clip on the site. What program are you running?

It's all good then:thumbsup: Yeh, I read back and it was in my face all the time. Anyway, If it were a commercial....Nevermind
