so i was on b&h looking to get a anamorphic adapter for my dvx 100b because im expecting a nice check from george w. bush. this is what i come across its called an Aspect Ratio Converter now it says it the same angle of view realized in 16:9 ratio while shooting in the 4:3 aspect ratio... im not exactly sure what this means is this an anamorphic adapter and it is significantly cheaper than the panasonic anamorphic adapter. im lost here.

why don't you just crop you footage in you edited system.....i'm sure is more work, but looks nice and easier to film.....you will have more room to play with you footage and save your $

Even if that were an anamorphic adapter, which I'm not sure it is, it's for the XL2 (different optics). There's only one anamorphic adapter for the DVX.

I believe that is an adapter that allows you to shoot a 4:3 image using the entire surface of the CCDs in the XL-2 (XL-2 CCDs are physically 16:9 in shape). That would have to be an anamorphic adapter to do that.

thats true, but i have seen some people use the panasonic anamorphic adapter on the xl2 and it looks like it works fine ive seen the footage its not 16:9 its 2:3:5:1 i would think xl2 lenses would work fine with the dvx if im wrong please tell me

here is a link to some footage with the xl2 and anamorphic adapter now i know this wouldnt be able to be viewed on any television but it could work for online applications right?

A given adapter lens may or may not work with the DVX. This PARTICULAR one, if it's some kind of lens meant to stretch a 4:3 image over 16:9 chips, would be inappropriate.

If a lens adapter is meant to work with a 16:9 chipset, it's probably not right for the DVX.

(Also, you may notice the barrel distortion in that video there; using a lens in a way other than intended will often yield unintended results.)

Yes...cool - almost.
The barrel distortion is visible in nearly every shot really. Bummer.
Perhaps Panasonic will introduce such a lens for their 16:9 HD cameras that doesn't generate barrel distortion.
That would be reeeeeally cool.

UPDATE:
In the DVX book it says the Anamorphic Adapter WILL produce the super wide view when using the 16:9 setting.
I'd love to see the results.
