Just got HMC40 and have completed first read through of Barry's book and tried to understand most of downloaded Panasonic manual and have read a lot in this forum. I have "book learning" to begin experimenting with HMC40. However, would appreciate a few guidelines on following (and I hope Barry does not mind if I quote his book just to reference what I wonder about):
1. When handheld is it generally best (subjective term) to leave OIS on or off for (A) slow pan--scenery; (B) fast pan--follow race cars. Basis for question: On page 226 Barry points out if OIS is left on it might create "jerkiness" in pans as OIS tries to "compensate" for motion. Accordingly he suggests turning OIS off for tripod mounted pans. My question pertains to handheld situations where speed of pan may impact OIS "jerkiness."
2. Minor question. Is there some setting I can select to have camera just play a selected clip and then stop playback? Right now if I have 8 thumbnails on LCD screen I can "touch" number 5 and camera plays number 5 but then continues playing 6,7,8. No big deal I can just stop play as soon as I find camera playing clip 6 and then select 5 again. Just wonder if there is some setting I have not yet found to just play selected clip and then stop and display thumbnails--I could then select another single clip to play. As I say, no big deal but just wondering.
