Ask Sony US to have the Sony Europe BluRay available!

If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a link to the video I'm talking about:

http://www.denlennie.com/2012/01/new-fs100-tutorial-trailer-from-sony-europe.html

It's a training video by Den Lennie and others that go over a number of things with the FS100. Currently it's only available to the Sony EU market, but briefly speaking with Den over twitter and he said to ask our local dealers. I think if we have enough of a demand for it they'll bring it over here. I think it looks fantastic and I would love to get my hands on it.

I have to admit I haven't seen the Euro video, but I've had a 3-hour in-depth training DVD out since last August that is NOT sponsored by Sony and it NOT a promo video for the camera. It is a real training video that covers all aspects o the camera, warts and all, from a to z. I honestly don't think you can cover the FS100 in only 70 minutes. No, it's not free, but few things worthwhile are. Although I work for Sony at NAB and elsewhere during the year, I never accept any support or assistacne on my training DVDs. I want to be free to say anything I want.

One of my first purchases after getting the FS100 was to get Doug's video. If you want to come up to speed quickly and feel comfortable with the camera, its a no brainer in my book. It has my recommendation.

I recommend Doug's video. It provides a good base that you can build upon by visiting the forums.

I agree with everyone that Doug offers an excellent product! I'm very interested in the Den Lennie's video not because it's supposed to be a training video, but because you get to see how other Pro's have used the FS100 and why they like it so much. I already know how to shoot with the FS100 just by going out and running my own experiments. The rest is up to my own creativity.

Doug's video is great but i agree about seeing how other pros work and all. But just for a little knowledge, contacted the dude who put together the video your talking about. He basically said I was S-O-L not living in the UK and already owning camera... Is that some b*** s***

My personal opinion is that I like to have as much info as possible, so having BOTH Doug's and Den's DVD would be my recommendation.
Seems strange that they wouldn't sell it to U.S. customers, I mean I assume they like making money, so why not make it available
for anyone to buy? I mean I am sure there must be issues preventing them from, otherwise why not just sell it online worldwide?
I've bought all kinds of stuff from all over the world, Heliopan filter, the Digislider motor driven slider, rigging, rails, matte box
for my FS100 and I've never had a single issue with any of it, seems like a lot of companies have figured out how to sell stuff
to everyone.

Amusing that this should be posted as I sit here just finished drinking my coffee and skipping through Doug's DVD before going out on a shoot...Excellent tool and very well organized. I watch it often and refer to chapters just to refresh. Any inside info on the Firmware Update you can pass this way Doug?
:>)

Hi everyone, and thank you for the nice comments about the DVD. It is great to get that kind of feedback and to learn that it really does flatten the learning curve just as it was designed to do.

I have been briefed by Sony on the new firmware update, but as far as I know everything has already been made public by now and I don't anticipate discovering any extra surprises when I put it on my camera after NAB (no time to even try it before then). If you're hoping for something more than what is on this list, you can stop holding your breath. These are very welcome improvements, but this is the whole list:

Oh, one thing I know about that is not on this list is that you'll be able to move the expanded focus area around the screen using the Execute key instead of just zooming into the center. Most DSLRs have a similar function.
Also, the camera will remember that position in case you want to check it again later. For example, this could be very handy when you want to put the expanded focus box over the talent's face during an interview, and then be able to easily check focus if they move.

Also, you'll be able to save up to 99 camera profiles on a memory card, and each camera profile saves almost all of the camera's important menu settings. Very similar to how XDCAM works.

There's suppsed to be less than 1/3 stop of light lost with the LA-EA2 adapter, and auto-focusing with Alpha lenses is supposed to be amazing. I have not tried it myself yet.

Doug,

In regard to "and each camera profile saves almost all of the camera's important menu settings. Very similar to how XDCAM works", I'm confused.

I was thinking the firmware upgrade was dealing with picture profiles, but your comment about the "camera profiles" makes me wonder, as picture profiles don't save camera settings.

Is this something new, a modification of picture profiles, or what??

Like I said, I haven't seen it yet and I don't have all the details, but it's my understanding that it is something new. It sounds like we will now be able to save nearly all the camera's setting as a camera profile so you can clone cameras. All of the XDCAMs already have that functionality, and it is something I have lobbied for since I first got my hands on a pre-production FS100 one year ago this week. Wow, that was a fast year!

Thanks for this info Doug, that sounds like a great feature. Hopefully we can give these profiles names!

I´m featured on that Bluray and even I don´t have seen it - so be patient, good things come on those who wait ;-)

As far as I know, Dan got the first bunch these days.

Thanks for the input Doug and for stopping by dvxuser. I am sure that many will agree that it would be great to hear your two cents more often over here. As many have pointed out the FS100 is and continues to be very popular in a variety of production areas and there is a definite lack of a place for the users to call "home". I like many who chose the FS 100 over the AF100 despite being Panasonic users for several cameras previously have always found dvxuser to be an outstanding resource albeit somewhat Panasonic biased. So accurate informed information about the camera is something we can never get enough of. Now if you could find us a servo zoom for those directors who are news based and if you could tell them to make under $2k.....
